Creators of the Joker and Captain America Pass

Recent Deaths in the Comics

Joe Simon (98) and Jerry Robinson (89) have passed away within a week of each other, leaving the comics industry short of two big names. As remaining members from the Golden Age of Comics, they contributed heavily to the industry as we know it through their stories, pencils, inks, and Jerry Robinson, Creator of the Jokeroutreach to fans of all ages. Both men were inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame during their lifetime, and their loss will be felt by their fans now and for years to come.

The Laugh Behind the Joker

Jerry Robinson's legacy made for one of the most popular movies in Hollywood cinema, The Dark Knight. Creator of Batman villain the Joker, Robinson was most well known for his pencils on Detective Comics, the original Batman run. Robinson's contributions to Batman helped Bob Kane make the comic what it was, giving it life through characters such as Two Face Harvey Dent and Batman's sidekick, Robin. In his person life, he was also an advocate of creators' rights in the copyright fight over comic book characters and a political cartoonist.

Captain America's Shield

A pioneer in the comics industry, Joe Simon created Captain America, the iconic figure that summed up American ideals and Joe Simon, Creator of Captain Americafreedoms during the war-torn time period of World War II. Simon was responsible for perhaps the most famous comic book cover in history: the image of Captain American punching Hitler.

Throughout his life, Simon expanded his work from artist to editor and publisher. He was one of the starting hands in Timely Comics, which would later become Marvel Comics, a big player in the industry to this day. With one of the largest portfolios in the industry, the world will mourn the loss of Joe Simon, who lived just long enough to enjoy his biggest creation on the silver screen this past May when Captain America punched Hitler in Hollywood.

Flaunt with Sexy Devil Costumes

This Halloween, I want to rock the party and my man's world with a sexy devil costume! This is a bit daring for me. In the past, I would find the most modest costume that covered a lot of skin to wear on Halloween. But with all the P90x I have been doing, I can finally wear a sexy, revealing costume with confidence. Check this sexy devil costume I found out.

It is called the Sexy Hell to Pay Light up Devil Costume. The underwire cups lined with flame lights are what makes the costume so sexy. I know my man will be proud to have such a hot date! I personally love that the horns headband lights up and that the garters are included. To complete my look, I went all out and found this awesome Red Devil Makeup tutorial. This tutorial has a cool trick using fishnet pantyhose that really makes the makeup look wicked!

My man and I typically like to coordinate our costumes. Since we go to all the parties together, dressing up with matching themes is more fun. Plus, with us matching, everyone will think we are the cutest couple. For him, I found the Adult Sinister Devil Costume. Once he puts this on, all he needs to do is slick his hair back to get that powerful, evil look.

I know it may be over the top, but I have decided to dress our dog up too! He will be the cutest devil at the party with his devil horns and red cape. We will have a good excuse to bring him along to the parties since he is dressed up too. I think everyone will find the idea of us all wearing matching devil costumes adorable. They will want to get pictures of the devil trio!

Of course this trio idea works perfectly for me but there are other fun combinations too. Go as a group that includes a priest, an angel and a devil. Or you and your best friend can go as a devil, angel duo. Dressing as a devil will definitely impress. I know I cannot wait to flaunt my sexy devil costume.

DragonCon Offers the Best in Costuming

For those of us who make and wear costumes (and not just at Halloween), conventions offer the time and the place to show off the goods. My personal favorite convention is DragonCon in Atlanta, GA, which is termed by its biggest fans as "Nerd Christmas."

Here are the top three reasons DragonCon rocks:

DragonConpics

#3: The Guests

DragonCon is one of the largest conventions in the nation, and because of its clout, it draws a lot of neat guests. Pictured are Leonard Nemoy and William Shatner, Spock and Captain Kirk respectively, from Star Trek fame.

#2: The Parade

What you're seeing is correct, readers. Every year at DragonCon there is a Labor Day weekend parade led by Stormtroopers and other costumed heroes. Many times the guests will ride in cars, like Adam West in an ole style Batmobile, and everyone in costume is welcome to march with a costume group.

#1: The Costumes

Well, what did you think would be the best part of going to a convention where costumers run the show? Every year DragonCon hosts costume contests for the nation's top costumers to strut their stuff. Winners get bragging rights and a whole lot of fame in the costuming community.

If you're in need of something to do this Labor Day Weekend (it's only a month and a half away!), check out DragonCon in Atlanta, GA. If you can't make the journey there, check out some of the awesome pictures. Just a google search will turn up amazing results!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon - with Simple or Extremely Challenging Costume Options

I've been a fan of Transformers since before I even knew what a car was--alright, that's an exaggeration. But I was definitely a fan before I could even buckle myself up and my parents still had to do it for me. There's just something about toy cars that could turn into awesome robots that made me, admittedly a little girl who hated Barbie dolls, and my brother go crazy for them.

Every time a Transformers movie comes out, regardless of how good or bad I feel it's going to be, I go see it. Honestly, I think watching robots pummel each other to death is worth a $10 ticket, don't you? In that regard, Transformers: Dark of the Moon does not disappoint. There are more Transformers, bigger and badder than ever, and fight scenes the likes of which War of the Worlds hasn't even seen.

Rosie Huntington joins the cast as Sam's new girlfriend, taking the place of Megan Fox. These's outfits would be really easy to do as you could find these clothes anywhere, and dirtying them up is as easy as rolling around in some dirt. Pair with a Transformer (or even a sharp car if you happen to own one of those) for a great costume group.

I mean, really, who wouldn't want to be that for Halloween?

Seriously, go see the movie. And I mean now. If you like cars and robots and happen to drool over them like I do, bring a mop bucket because this movie is filled with eye candy.

The Hangover Returns with Great Costume Ideas

The Hangover Part II

The Hangover cast returns in The Hangover Part II for another bachelor party gone wrong. This time, Stu is getting married in Thailand, and the gang, consisting of Stu, Phil, Alan and Stu's soon-to-be brother-in-law, Teddy, wake up in Bangkok--minus Teddy, plus Chow and a monkey. The gang has two days to remember the events of the mysterious night and find the missing Teddy so they can get Stu back to Thailand to marry the gorgeous Laura.

Like the last movie, this one has great opportunities for simple yet hilarious costumes. At the start of the movie, the group looks put together and posh on their way out of America, but that soon changes. Post-bachelor party, Phil's outfit consists of a dirty white button-up, khakis and aviators. Stu has a great new tattoo (styled after the famous Mike Tyson who later makes a cameo appearance), khakis and a red and gray plaid shirt. Alan has shaved his head and adopted a drug-dealing monkey on top of wearing a yellow t-shirt depicting a yellow lab.

The group hiding Chow's body in an ice machine after mistaking him as dead.

Most of the clothes worn in the movie could be picked up at a thrift store or found online for cheap. For a great prop for any costume from the movie, compliment with a stuffed monkey (smoking a cigarette if you're daring). A pack of marshmallows are the culprit of this movie's drug-induced night, so if you're dressing as Alan, carry around a pack for a cheap, easy prop. Offer them to party goers and see how many people refuse. For Stu's tattoo, try using makeup or face paint.

This movie offers a lot more costume options than the first due to its larger group of characters. Even Laim Neeson makes a cameo as a Bangkok tattoo artist who informs the group that they stole an old Buddhist monk in a wheelchair from a monestary. No matter what the size of your group, you can pull it off with The Hangover Part II costumes.

Mutants Hit the Big Screen

X-Men First Class
X-Men: First Class

It's no secret. As a comic book fan, I've been holding a grudge against the X-Men franchise for years for its script writing that blatantly ignores comic book canon. In fact, I almost avoided X-Men: First Class in fear of it turning out like X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which remains notable for its leak onto the internet before it hit theaters. Whereas fans left X-Men Origins: Wolverine wondering why they skipped some of the largest chapters in Logan's life, like living in Japan and fathering a son, X-Men: First Class does a good job of taking an old story, freshening it up, and presenting it to an overly critical audience (myself included).

As children, Erik is raised in a Nazi prison camp while Charles adopts Mystique into his family. Years later, Erik is hunting down the Nazi who killed his mother and trained him. Charles has just become a professor focusing in mutations and is recruited by the CIA to find Sebastian Shaw (played by Kevin Bacon), the mutant leader of the Hellfire Club. The CIA reveals that the Hellfire Club aims to start World War III, a nuclear war, in order to destroy humans and allow mutants to rise to rule the world. The CIA recruits Erik and Charles and introduces them to Hank McCoy, a mutant scientist who created Cerebro, a brain wave intensifier, to locate other mutants around the United States. Erik and Charles volunteer to find these mutants and recruit them to an all-mutant team.

Charles' new team soon faces Shaw as he comes to recruit them out from beneath the CIA. Angel leaves with him much to the disappointment of her friends, and one member dies in the ensuing fight. With their recent failure close at hand, Charles takes the group to his home in New York to hone their abilities. There, Mystique and Hank bond over their odd looks, while Erik and Charles become closer friends over their mutual respect for mutants. Using Mystique's DNA, Hank attempts to heal his mutated feet but instead mutates further into a blue-furred creature the team refers to as Beast.

X-Men: First Class' Beast
Beast's new look

In an alternate telling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the G-Men, the name the CIA calls the team of mutants, come to the frontlines to stop Shaw as he attempts to start a world war. Erik goes after Shaw for revenge and finds him absorbing nuclear energy. Erik kills him with the very coin Shaw gave him as a child. Charles, overwhelmed with grief for Erik's choice, tries to convince him to stop his thoughts of hatred, but Erik won't be convinced. The group returns to the beach to find that both the Russians and the United States Army are targeting them with missiles.

Erik uses the crises to show the G-Men that humans will only use and then destroy mutants. When the armies launch missiles, he turns them back towards the firing ships. Charles and Moira, a woman from the CIA, attempt to stop Erik, but when Erik deflects one of Moira's bullets, it is lodged in Charles' spine. Erik loses his concentration and the missiles explode, leaving the armies in the water safe, while Charles realizes he cannot move his legs. Erik leaves with many of the mutants on shore, including Mystique.

The rise of Magneto

In the final scenes, Charles declares that he is opening his home in New York as a school for other mutants while Moira pushes him in a wheelchair. She calls him Professor X and refers to his students as the X-Men. Erik, however, returns to prison for Emma Frost, showing that he is recruiting a large team of anti-human mutants.

Overall, I was really pleased with the film. It didn't ahere to comic book canon, but it was still a nice look at the origins of the X-Men team. Let's face it: If an X-Men movie can please me, it's going to be a box office smash hit. To get you in the mutated mood, check out the available X-Men costumes, and the Wolverine Muscle Chest adult costume. If you haven't seen X-Men: First Class yet, I suggest you do before your friends leave you in the dust. With great acting and some killer costumes, check out this movie ASAP!

Red Riding Hood Has Her Day at the Movies

Red Riding Hood Grandmother's HouseRed Riding Hood at Grandmother's House

Red Riding Hood has finally made it to the big screen! Red Riding Hood hit theaters on March 11 and was received by its target audience with great enthusiasm. I was also part of that demographic, and I was very much pleased.

Red Riding Hood combines all of the elements of the classic fairytale - the red cloak, grandmother's house being through the woods, a woodcutter desiring Red, and a wolf out to use what he knows about Red against her. Red even has a dream where she shares a dialogue regarding her grandmother's surprisingly large ears and pointy teeth.

There is definitely a risk of cliche movie making, but director Catherine Hardwicke managed to use the cliche elements and create an environment that was very real. Consider this: a classic medieval village in the middle of nowhere, two men who love the same girl, arranged marriages, a wolf-killer brought in to protect the people, and a strange animal that is hunting the villagers. Great potential for a bad movie, but all weaved together to instead create a fairytale that could otherwise not be brought to life.

Red Riding Hood MovieRed Riding Hood running through the village

Red's family had an impact on the movie, to say the least. Grandmother was a beauty, not at all as depicted in any of the versions of the fairytale I have ever read. With long blonde dreadlocks, healing salves and a true hippie nature, Grandmother would be a catch today! Mom wasn't bad, either, although her own secrets keep her from being enviable. Dad, well, we can all confirm he does his best to keep Red with him at all times.

Now that Red Riding Hood has had her day at the movies, she will also be sure to enjoy a few years of flattery through imitation. Red Riding Hood costumes have a sweet innocence to them, whether for kids or adults. Sexy Red Riding Hood costumes have always been popular, and this year we are sure to see an increase in long red cloaks. I wonder if the big bad wolf will also have his day...
